BooksI'm Still AliveThe website, especially the blog, hasn't been getting much love lately. A lot of that has to do with what I've been doing the last few months. Between learning more than I really want to know about Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, Leech Brain Cells, and Electricity and Magnetism; Doing an extensive rewrite on Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire, and my new time sucking addiction to World of Warcraft, I haven't had a lot of free time. I still don't, really, but I'm going to try to make more of an effect to keep up with this blog. So, on to stuff that's actually interesting.
Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire Take 3Right now, I'm working on the third draft of my second novel, Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire. I've finished 8 chapters, which works out to around 26K words, about 20K of which is new material. Pretty much the entire front half of the novel is being rewritten, while the back half will remain pretty much intact, though some of the subplots will get a bit more emphasis than before. I'm actually enjoying reworking the story, but I'm running up against a problem a lot of part time writers have. Lack of freaking time.
Draw One In The DarkI'm catching up on my reading over the holiday, can you tell? To be perfectly honest, I had planned on skipping this one. When the cover originally went up on Baen's site, my first thought was "bleh". When I read the blurb (which frankly bares only a passing resemblance to the actual plot), I was even less enthused. I was honestly picturing a low rent Laurell K. Hamilton knockoff.
Lucy's BladeI just finished an Advanced Reader Copy of Lucy's Blade by John Lambshead and I've got to say, I've impressed. From what I've heard, Lucy's Blade came into being because Jim Baen was a big Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan. Because of that, I had somewhat mixed feelings going into it. I'm a Buffy fan myself, but often when you get an author who tries to 'write something like that' what you get is a second rate knockoff that can't stand on its own two feet.
The Dresden FilesSo, I managed to throw my back out again early Sunday morning. I've got no idea how I actually managed it, as I was asleep at the time, but hey, it's not the first time I'm been laid up for a week because I slept in a funky position. On the other hand, I've been extremely bored, because the pain is just bad enough, even when I'm laying perfectly still, to keep me from being able to concentrate on editing or rewriting.
