I'm Still Alive

The website, especially the blog, hasn't been getting much love lately. A lot of that has to do with what I've been doing the last few months. Between learning more than I really want to know about Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, Leech Brain Cells, and Electricity and Magnetism; Doing an extensive rewrite on Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire, and my new time sucking addiction to World of Warcraft, I haven't had a lot of free time. I still don't, really, but I'm going to try to make more of an effect to keep up with this blog.

So, on to stuff that's actually interesting.

Today, I am a Fairly Decent Baker

It's Katherine's birthday tomorrow, and unfortunately, she's spending today writing a synopsis and a query letter for her novel as part of a workshop she's doing in a couple of weeks. I know the pain of the synopsis, and therefore feel much sympathy. I decided she needed a cake, so I marched off to kroger with the intention of purchasing something made of lots of chocolate. Unfortunately, their cake selection was crap, so I ended up buying a Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate Cake Mix, a couple of cans of Dark Chocolate icing, and a tube of icing to spell out Happy Birthday.

Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire Take 3

Right now, I'm working on the third draft of my second novel, Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire. I've finished 8 chapters, which works out to around 26K words, about 20K of which is new material. Pretty much the entire front half of the novel is being rewritten, while the back half will remain pretty much intact, though some of the subplots will get a bit more emphasis than before.

I'm actually enjoying reworking the story, but I'm running up against a problem a lot of part time writers have.

Lack of freaking time.

A sure sign that we're just a tiny bit obsessed with our cats.

And that my girlfriend is funny.

My Girlfriend the Übergeek

Katherine is the Übergeek. Go, read, ph34r her.

Katherine hit 50K words on her first novel!

She also picked up one of those nifty NaNoWriMo winner's icons. Go her.

Just as an aside.

I wasn't sure (after the first three times), but I think it's now safe to say Katherine likes the new Harry Potter film.

I suppose I'm just lucky...

Jennifer Jackson posted in her LiveJournal about clients having marital difficulties because of their spouses didn't get the whole writing thing.

I suppose I can understand that part. But what really gets me is this comment. Apparently her husband was a serious SOB, because frankly, this boggles the mind.

Katherine made a sale!!!

It's done

Well, I thought it might need another scene, but Katherine says it's done. I trust her judgement, so, I'm going to drop it on the server for her to do her magic editing thang.

A full story in less than 36 hours. I feel accomplished.
