Homefront

Opening Line Meme

The idea here is to post the first line of five works in progress. I'm kind of fudging a bit.

President Charles King was a man with problems. - Homefront. I'm counting as a WIP because it's undergoing a massive trim for length.

I tend to work out naked. - Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire. It doesn't go out to the agent until Monday, so it counts.

No Joy on Homefront

Well, the slush editor over at Baen apparently didn't love Homefront, so it's on to the next market.

Progress Report for Nov 22, 2005

Homefront (Warfront Book 1) - Out being line edited. I need to make a few final revisions when it comes back, but after that, it goes into the Baen slush. I also have a handy dandy skip to the front of the line coupon, so it should get read in January instead of November of '06.

It's done!

It has taken almost four years of writing in fits and starts, but it's done. The first draft of Homefront is finally finished. I just wrote the words 'The End' about five minutes ago.

It's been a hell of a long slog, and I didn't end up anywhere near were I intended to go, but all in all, I think it's a pretty damn good book.

I need to do some polishing of course, and I am positively dreading having to print the thing out if my first choice publisher doesn't accept it, but I've finished my first novel eight months shy of my thirtieth birthday.

A long overdue update...

So, it's been almost two months since I last updated this. I think I'm overdue, so here goes.

In the last two months, I've:

Started my second year of college. I'm taking Stellar Astronomy, Stellar Astronomy Lab, Survey of World Religions, Survey of American History - Civil War to Present and American Government. The Religion class is disappointing, but the other classes are a lot of fun. I suppose you can't win them all.

Finally...

I finished the air to air crap. It will probably need revision, but it's done.

Now I just need to do the ground combat and I can but back to what I really enjoy. Also, I'm at 134,402 words by MS Word's count. Luckily, I'm planning on some cuts.

Note to self

O'Hare airport gets it in Native Shores.

Three points.

One, it is very hard to write with a half pount of undiluted cute lying on your chest.

Two, if I stopped participating in online discussions I would quit coming up with the huge surplus of story ideas.

I need to get around to setting up the Story Idea blog sooner rather than later.

I amuse myself anyway...

You know, some typoes are just to funny. Late in Homefront there is a scene where a French General is getting ready to fight a hopeless battle while suffering from walking pnemonia.

His senior NCO says "You should be in bed." to which he replies, "But then who would dye heroically?"

Now I have this picture in my head of the French Army charging into battle in tie dye while driving tanks painted something like this:
