Progress Report for Nov 22, 2005Homefront (Warfront Book 1) - Out being line edited. I need to make a few final revisions when it comes back, but after that, it goes into the Baen slush. I also have a handy dandy skip to the front of the line coupon, so it should get read in January instead of November of '06. Meredith Mackenzie and the Uruk Empire (Meredith Mackenzie Book 1) - First draft is finished. I need to go back and do revisions, see if I can pad it out some more. There are things I know are continuity errors that will need to be fixed. Lots of work here, but I need some space before I can look at this one objectively. "Dana Scully with Frickin' Laser Beams" (Story 1 of 4 in We're Here to Help You (FBSI Case Files Book 1)) - Currently in the 'slush pile' workshop confenrence on Baen's Bar. Will be moved to Baen's Universe Slush sometime next week. Martian Terraforming Article for Baen's Universe - have it outlined. Just need to sit down and bang it out. On the schedule for tomorrow. "Joanne Norton and the Harsh Lesson" (Tentative Title - Novella set in the Meredith Mackenzie universe.) - I've got the rough outline in my head. I know where it starts, I know where it ends, I know most of the major events. The problem is getting into the right head space to write this one. It has to be done soon though, because however much I pad, Meredith Mackenzie and the Uruk Empire is never going to reach 120K words. We're Here To Help You (FBSI Case Files Book 1) - I know most of the points I need to hit in order to make this one work. I've got the meta arc for the whole series pretty firmly worked out. The character's backstories have come together in my head rather nicely. The only real issue I'm having is finding my feet for story number three. "Sharing Quarters" (Stand Alone Short Story) - Still out. I'm suppose to hear back in the next 90 days or so. Have no idea what I'll do with it if they don't want it. There isn't really much market for that sort of story, and even less for stories of that length. Beyond We're Here to Help You - I really don't know. It all depends on the timing. I expect to have Meredith Mackenzie and the Uruk Empire ready for the slush around the time Homefront is being read, and I hope I'll have a draft of We're Here to Help You ready as well. It would be really, really nice if a certain editor bought the lot in one go. The problem is, between first read and said editor actually reading the thing it could be as much as a year, which means, if I keep up my currect rate of work, probably four more projects after We're Here to Help You before I start work on any sequels. I can work on What Rough Beast after I finish We're Here to Help You, then move on to The Nobel Lie, but that still leaves me two projects short for the coming year, and the only things left in the idea journal are things I don't feel ready to tackle.
