FAQ
Who is this B. B. Kristopher guy anyway?
- See the "About Me" section
If Brian is your first name, why not write as Brian Kristopher? What's up with the initials thing?
- I just happen to think B. B. Kristopher sounds cool. I've always had a soft spot for writers with initials instead of names. Call it pretense. Besides, my signature is long enough as it is.
Where can I get your books?
- Right now, unfortunately, nowhere. I'm still working on the second and third novels and shopping the first one around. However, sometime around the middle of 2007, my short story "The Girl With The Killer Eyes" will appear in The Best of Jim Baen's Universe 2006.
She Who Must Be Obeyed?
- Oh come on, you have to ask?
Six cats?
- Long, long story.
What kind of stuff do you write?
- Mostly science fiction. I occasionally dabble in other genres. At various times I've written horror, fantasy, romance and drama.
If you've written all of that, why isn't it up on the website?
- Well, everyone has to learn to write somehow, and contrary to popular belief, writing well isn't something you can do without a whole lot of practice. Let's just say I did my million words of crap and leave it at that.
Is B. B. Kristopher your real name?
- Nope, it's a pseudonym.
Why use a pseudonym for any of your work?
- I've got a hand full of reasons. Mostly, it's a way to keep my scholarly work and my fiction separate. (Note I said "scholarly" work. I do write the occasional non-fiction piece under my pseudonym. Scholarly writing is a whole other ball game.)
Have you ever been published?
- Yes, I have a non-fiction article in Jim Baen's Universe Issue 3 and a Short Story in Jim Baen's Universe Issue 4. I've got a few stories in circulation though.
Did you really used to be an actor?
- Yes.
Where you in anything I might have seen?
- Not unless you're very, very familiar with the Orlando theater scene. Even then it's highly doubtful.
What kind of costumes did you design?
- Oh, lots of stuff. I worked in a costume shop. I put together stuff for Nickelodeon, Disney, MGM, Universal and several independent productions. I even put together an entire movie once. A low budget scream queen flick called Victoria's Shadow. (No, I didn't get a credit. Such is life)
What college do you go to?
- Georgia State University.
If you want to be an author, shouldn't you be an English major?
- Why? I already know how to speak, read and write English (though my spelling could use a bit of work). On the other hand, I love astronomy.
How old are you?
- I was born in 1976. You do the math.
How long does it take you to write a novel?
- It depends. It took me several years to write Homefront, but the first draft of Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire took two months. Seriously, this is a meaningless question.
Will you read my story/novel/epic fantasy trilogy/etc?
- No, and honestly, why would you want me to? Seriously, I've sold one story and one article. I can't help your career.
