BlogAngeLINK as a seriesI've finished all four books in the AngeLINK series by Lyda Morehouse, and I have a few thoughts on the series as a whole. 1). I think the first books was originally intended as a stand alone. While it's great at establishing the universe, and introducing most of the characters, it doesn't tie in as strongly to the overall arc of the series as the other three books. That said, the series could not really stand without it, and it is a fantastic book.
A Surreal Experience.I signed my first autograph today. A member of my critique group bought a copy of The Best of Jim Baen's Universe and I signed it above my story. It was kind of amusing. We meet in a Barnes & Nobles, and while she was up and the register, I opened my notebook and practiced signing B. B. Kristopher a few times, because it's not how I usually sign my name (what with being a pseudonym and all). Then, I signed the book. The whole thing was both very cool and kind of a shock. I mean, seeing the book in print was cool. Seeing it on the story shelf was a whole other level of "wow". Scrawling my name in it kind of drove home the fact that yes, I actually did that. My work, right there, in print. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go live off that high for the next couple of weeks.
More on Lyda Morehouse's AngeLINK SeriesI didn't post yesterday because I got so wrapped up in reading Fallen Host and Messiah Node, the sequels to Lyda Morehouse's Archangel Protocol. All I can say is, damn, these are good books. I can also see why Katherine is so fond of Mouse, though personally, I think my favorite character is probably Page, with Mouse and Dragon running a very close second and third.
Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire Take 3Right now, I'm working on the third draft of my second novel, Meredith MacKenzie and the Uruk Empire. I've finished 8 chapters, which works out to around 26K words, about 20K of which is new material. Pretty much the entire front half of the novel is being rewritten, while the back half will remain pretty much intact, though some of the subplots will get a bit more emphasis than before. I'm actually enjoying reworking the story, but I'm running up against a problem a lot of part time writers have. Lack of freaking time.
How You Can Tell That We Love Our CatsKatherine and I are both, for various reasons, vegitarians. Yet we go through an average of 30 pounds of dead bird every month to feed our ravening little beasts.
Archangel ProtocolThe Archangel Protocol by Lyda Morehouse. Katherine's been after me to read this for a while, and I've been putting her off because I've been extremely busy. Between working on rewrites, and teaching classes this summer, trying to take time out to do some recreational reading has been pretty low on the list. I gotta say, I wish I hadn't put it off so long. I normally don't like cyberpunk, but this this was actually very cool.
Testing, Testing......is this thing on? I'm trying to do better about maintaining the blog. I've been slipping a bit, but as part of that, I've installed a gizmo that's suppose to cross post my entries to my LJ account. Just trying to see if it works, before I start with the important entries.
It's been a whileSo, it's been a while since I posted anything here. That's bad. On the other hand, I have been extremely busy. First, I heard back from an agent a while back. She said she really liked Meredith, but that unfortunately, she didn't think it would sell in it's current form, and gave me a few suggestions on how to fix the problems. Then offered to reread it if I revised it.
Got My Copies! My copies of The Best of Jim Baen's Universe came in the mail today. It's hard to describe just how cool it is to have a book you can open up and see something you've written.
A sure sign that we're just a tiny bit obsessed with our cats. And that my girlfriend is funny.
